This clip is from a song, technically the first EDM song I made using MIDI for the class assignment. (Sometime in Spring of 2024.) Another audio track for my portfolio!

After learning how to structure the beats, instruments and use the basic features in Ableton. I was ‘able’ to create this EDM style song on my own.

Of course, I have a background in Electronic music as a dancer and club-hopper from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. So this class assignment was such a joy to do and I am planning to make more in this style.

In this song, you hear the vocals are distorted. This story line is from a Sci-fi audiobook recording that I originally made in 2021, ‘Our Garden Spaceship’. You can find an edited audio copy here: Our Garden Spaceship article.

I wanted to use as many original sounds as I could possibly find in my own library. Some of the effects sounds are from a friends audio library with rights to use them for non-commercial purposes.

This is an extended version of what I turned in for the class assignment which was about 3 mins.

After this final assignment was turned in, I went back and made this version by duplicating, and adding or subtracting sections to make it more of a real EDM type song instead of a quick listen.

Progress is a long-term tactic!!

Learning the structure of when to add more sounds and instruments is not complicated. The classic 8 or 16 bar theory works wonders. I obviously have much more to learn and practice with this style of audio and MIDI creation.

I have since taken a brief beat production course after graduating from school. I am also aware that there are multiple techniques, styles, methods and versions of learning how to make beats.

And this is the conundrum!

So many options leads to broken progress, at least from my experiences.

Having one mentor to follow or model is key when venturing out on self-learning courses. Meaning, teaching yourself how to do something in private, on my terms and at my own pace.

As for this song, glad the instructor was very experienced on the topic and has plenty of real-life lessons to share.

I am posting this to share my music creation skills.

The assignment was for Game Audio class, choose one of the video game clips provided by our instructor.

We had to create original music that fit the ‘Heighten State’ audio clip.

I chose this clip because I have some animal sounds that I could distort and layer over stretched native flute music that I had recently recorded. I used other instruments to layer in and provide a dark eerie drone sound.

An out of sync screeching-type beat made a creepy blend to patch empty spaces.

I wanted it to sound out of sync, kind of like you were lost at sea and had no other choice but to face the fear around the corner.

I feel like it fits well with the clip and suits the situation at hand.

If you listen to this with headphones on, you will experience the panning details better. May be listen to it in your car pumped up as well, while parked and no engine running of course…

This was a very significant era for my mental focus. I was instructed by professionals in the music industry that have years of experience in Nashville, Los Angeles and even Canada. (and other places…)

One of my instructors has a Grammy!

Also, I wanted to keep my focus on how inspired I felt while going through the audio program. Everyday was a joy to go to class because I got to learn more about music production, sound design, and engineering at live events.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to experience this in the flesh. Being able to physically use the equipment and join other audio-loving people, had to be the greatest lesson of all. Engaging with a diverse range of talented artist and producers truly opened my eyes to the possibilities beyond my own creativity.

Collaborations are a key component when projects are made to honor all aspects of the industry’s skills. The kind of communication and interaction required for a professional grade production says a lot about integrity and synergy.

My final note about my audio schooling experience is I accept that this happened for me at the perfect time in my life. It was after I had been a young adult living the nightlife in Las Vegas, and I had plenty of space to mature after that as a small business operator selling herbal tea and produce.

Not only can I produce food, I can produce music just as well.

For anyone interested in going into the music or audio industry, I highly support attending a professional (audio) tech institute, like SAE, the School of Audio Engineering. The specialization and focus on the skill to be attained is deeply appreciated. As many know, the traditional university multi-subject path is fading away. The idea of spending that much time to diversify can be invested a better way.

I have to say this has been a very enlightening post.

I made this audio with you in mind. The purpose of my musical productions is to empower, uplift and spread joyful energy to those listening and within proximity of hear it, by choice or not…

Perhaps listening to this audio makes you feel something like this…

Quick background on this: I was in school last year for audio, and while doing a homework assignment in the studio. A friend of mine (Vedo) was in the next studio making this track. I came out to take a brief break and drink some water. He seen me in the hallway and opened the door to invite me in for a listen. Next thing I know, my humble critiques turned into a recording session.

Homework still got done, and we had a new uplifting empowering inspirational song.

Cheers to a new song being ‘Turned Loose!’ (Released.)

Greetings to all of you Herbin Bread GuarDinners! I am happy to share with you a new song that I started working on while I was in school last year.

This is an accomplishment for me since I am also working three jobs and three businesses as I type. The jobs are all part-time and they are how I am paying my bills…

The businesses are #1, my music artist and audio engineering career emphasis.

The second biz is LaNeedA Travel, so me being a travel agent for these seeking an added wealth of wellness concierge travel agent.

Third, something I do not talk about much because I am consistently learning from this industry is a Life Insurance Agent with Family First Life.

With all of that going on and I am traveling frequently, I wonder how I get things done.

On to the new song! I titled it the Herbin GuarDin Laws to honor the laws of the universe that have guided me here to this present moment. My intention to learn the truth about my health is how I started to accept the truth about my health.

Herbin because I was raised urban, in an urban neighborhood, doing urbanized things. Some of those things I no longer do.

When I started the farming apprenticeship, which is how I learned to grow food, I was only expecting to learn farming techniques. I had not idea it would change my life forever.

The LAWS of the UNIverse! We are all governed by them whether we know it or not. Really, that is GOD. Everything that we are.

Not preaching here. Herbin GuarDin Laws, the song, is my expression of me. I played the flute. I sang the vocals. I recorded and engineered the mix. Maybe not fully mastered yet, but I did that too.

It was a progressive session. I only planned to record the flute maraca duet which I did on other songs and I play both at the same time.

It was only after I listened to another students song that I motivated to add the vocals and well— make layers. (By the way, they asked me to listen to their song, so I did.) From that session with my friend and fellow student at the time. I went in, and added multiple layers to the one original track of me playing the two instruments.

Later, I removed the maraca because I was not able to find a happy balance with it and the vocals I added. Perhaps in the future I will reMaster it and find a way to fit the maraca in.

I am sharing this to showcase my progressive journey into the meditative music niche. It was in 2003 when I learned how to play a singing bowl and about a year later I discovered the hand pan instrument at a drum circle event in Las Vegas.

Both of these instruments are very different in how they are played except for the frequency aspects and the gentleness required to get that sensual sound. The singing bowls are a group of crystal bowls that are different frequencies and sizes. They are played like a xylophone some what in a scale fashion. They are also hit with a mallet to induce a vibration tone but, when you use a rubberized mallet to caress the top rim of the bowl, circling around it. This action causes the bowl to reverberate and basically ring like a droning-bell until you stop the rubbing, allowing the vibrations to settle naturally.

As each singing bowl is tuned to a harmonic frequency, when played in special sequences, the sound that is created is able to calibrate with the harmonic energies within our bodies. If you have ever had the joy of experiencing this type of sound, you know that the tones from each bowl is connecting with an organ in your body and the vibrations make you feel a certain way depending on your own individual health and mindset.

The idea with these instruments is to create a calm, pleasant space for the mind to relax giving the body time to rest and potentially heal naturally from the nurturing vibrations of the sounds the crystal bowls create. However, you are only hearing the hand pan in this audio. I will be doing a recording tomorrow with the singing bowls to share with you.

As for the hand pan, it is a Kurd D minor with 9-notes. The ding on top is like a drone but, it is also the D4. This instrument is a variant of the Rasta steel drums for Jamaica. It was enclosed and made to be easy to carry and play without a stand. You place it upon your lap to play it with your bare hands and it can be placed on a stand if you desire. It is hit with a finger to tap the notes in a way that causes the metal to ring and vibrate. There are three harmonics for each note and all of the notes make up the D-minor scale.

I have loved the sound of this instrument from the moment I heard it. The hand pan is one of the most versatile instruments to play with the ability to vary loudness and finesse tones. I look forward to sharing more about the hand pan with you in the near future. In a sound bath, most of the instruments are not marching band instruments but, more of the tribal ceremony type of instruments. You may also believe that I have had experience with only playing band music, or concert sheet music. The truth is I have more experience and expertise in playing improvised music and playing instruments by ear.

Why is that important?

This is important because I am capable of playing multiple instruments such as basic band or familiar jazz instruments. However, in the percussion section, many of these instruments are actually accent type instruments and are usually played with other groups and section instruments.

It's not likely that to only use claves to make a song and add some vocals over the track to give it a realistic feel. Or how about, using a single maraca to compliment a duet with a native flute being played with one hand while you are keeping beat on the maraca with the other hand. Or! Mixing a song with a flute and voiceover storyline, matched with Foley recordings to accent the emotional elements like an audio book.

Who does that?

So where do you come in to play with all of this? WELL...

Yeah, I call them a ceremony because this is a ministry organization. Our mission is to share the wealth of wellness with you. Initially I did that with the SupHerblendz teas and spices which is still a part of this mission. When I did the Farming Apprenticeship in 2016, I had no idea that it would impact so many people's lives in a positive way. Customers and friends would tell me how much they love my teas and spice blends and how they have improved their life. It just keeps rippling out.

Content that I talked about back in 2008 when I had my first website, has been the starting point of someone's lifestyle transition to wellness. I wasn't even thinking about where I would be ten or fifteen years later. If you would have told me that I would be doing sound bath events and eating a plant-based diet, I would have been shocked to say the least.

I can only imagine how many people will be inspired by this music that I have created and plan to make for the duration of this lifetime.

Will everyone like it?
Probably not but, I know many will be grateful to have this Vibnamic Music to listen to.

We can all recall a song or some music they heard at the store which made them feel good, calm or safe. Perhaps you remember a song that uplifted your spirit, or boosted your self-esteem. Many days I have listened to joyful music to empower my own life experience.

I could have done many things when I feel under the weather. When I make the choice to turn on that song or that album from my childhood to aid me with uplifting my mood. It creates a habit which is the ultimate empowerment action.

I think a musician creates music out of love and joy to make something that is capable of holding or shifting the energy in the space. Whether they know it or not, the action of creating music or a song, is in itself the very thing that is keeping us all alive, and in this ever pulsating expression of negative and positive energy. The neutral is present when one is fully aware that both exist at the same time, in the same space, and for the same purpose.

That is the natural cycle of life. The ebb and flow of energy. We are electric beings. Our heart beats with an electric current that is measured on an EKG. How are we not able to connect with our own energetics!

You are! I am! That is why you are reading this. The magnetic energy that guided you here is keeping both of us moving forward. I got the idea to focus on a topic. You felt compelled to visit this site and read this article. And I have more gifts to share with you to keep uplifting the energy...

The reason for sharing these is to build my portfolio and give some people motivational energy surrounding my plant-based lifestyle to optimal health. I am still learning things about my elemental recipe, and the positive impact this upgrade has had on my mental clarity.

Had I not started this process over twelve years ago, I would be in a totally different space and perhaps DEAD! I was really pro-Candy & Pepperoni back then. Needless to type, I have moved to a better space in my journey, especially when it comes to that infamous word… DISCIPLINE.

Thank you for reading and watching this audio visual post. As you have noticed, I am posting more of my projects into this blog as my portfolio grows from class assignments. This projects are a testimony of what skills I have learned, what level I am at when I made these projects and that allows all to see the growth from this moment.

In the video, I had to program a light show using Live 11 and DMX32. We could use any song or music we wanted. I selected one of DJ Hernán Cattañeo’s live mixes, and because he posts them for free on his podcast.hernancattaneo.com site, I am free to use it without any copyright issues. At one point you see the phone fall over. I was holding my cell phone and wanted to set it down so I could go dance in the light show but, that didn’t work so I continued to record my programmed assignment. I could have stopped and recorded it again with the phone on a tripod. However, I felt it was more authentic for my instructor to the candid handling which also proves that it was a programmed event because I could not hold the phone and do the DMX’s at the same time.

Anyway, the process of making the lighting design project required a few steps:

• Brainstorm ideas and select a song plus choose when to start the light event.

• Book studio time and show up ready to program my project idea.

• Learn how to use Live 11 midi and set-up session. (Follow class template)

• Open DMXs app and program presets after figuring out which switches and buttons control all of the lights we have on the set.

• Actually record your programmed lighting preset selections into Live 11 via midi.

• Play back your recorded settings to make sure they do what you wanted.

• Finally, record the lighting set with your cell phone and upload it with the other assignment materials into a zip file.

• Hit the submit assignment button for the project to be graded by instructor.

And there we have it. Of course this took place over a three week time frame as we learned all of the steps and how to use the DMX’s app in Live11. The course is 7 wks, and this was the final project. I got a 100%.

At the moment, we are celebrating July 4th! While others are out watching fireworks, I am inside creating more fireworks for a grand career in audio.
